This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled mechanical engineer with a passion for automation, problem-solving, and designing innovative solutions. About the Role
As a Mechanical Design & Applications Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and developing fully automated systems. You’ll work closely with customers to understand their project requirements, translating their needs into practical engineering solutions. This is a hands-on role that combines technical expertise with customer interaction, making it ideal for a solution-driven engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing automated systems, including 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings
- Providing technical design support, handling customer enquiries via phone and digital meetings
- Developing bespoke engineering solutions, including slide systems, gantries, and aluminium frameworks
- Validating applications, preparing costings and quotations
- Working closely with internal technical teams, external suppliers, and strategic partners
- Solving design challenges and troubleshooting engineering problems
- Maintaining accurate records of existing product designs and technical documentation
- Assisting in new product development aligned with business objectives
What We’re Looking For
- A recognised Engineering Apprenticeship (HNC minimum preferred)
- Proven experience in mechanical design and a track record in automated system design
- Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks or AutoCAD)
- An aptitude for machine mechanisms and a keen eye for problem-solving
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Confident using video conferencing and digital meeting platforms
- Organised, with strong time management and project planning skills
- Good maths and physics knowledge to support engineering principles
- Competent user of Microsoft Office Suite
- A hands-on, flexible approach to adapting to project changes

Monday to Thursday: 08:00 - 17:00
Friday: 08:00 - 14:30
40 hours per week (30-minute lunch break)
